Bandai Spirits have released a fair amount of model kits based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, starting in the late 90's just after the show finished airing continuing to the present day. These kits are akin to Gunpla models as they are made of colored tray of parts ("runners") that snap-fit together.

While most modern kits receive global releases, some kits are Premium Bandai releases. Premium Bandai is Bandai's official webshop and stocks exclusive merchandise from various series. Since the products can only be bought directly from Bandai and their sites only ship nationally, only a few countries in Asia including Japan, Korea and Singapore have full access to the catalogue. The United States also have access to Premium Bandai however the American site stocks a smaller selection of products.

Limited Model (LM) Models (1996-1997)

Limited Model (LM), not to be confused with High Grade Limited Model (HG-LM), is a cross-franchise line of models from 1996 featuring both Gundam and Evangelion kits. As the name suggests, these kits are quite limited, featuring very little articulation, color separation and detail. Most kits in the line are entirely cast in a single color and only feature ball joints at their shoulders and hips with their knees, elbows and torso being stuck in a single pose. These kits are extremely hard to find and are only recommended for experienced modelers.

Limited Model High Grade (LM-HG) Models (1996-1997, 2003', 2020')

Serving as a more premium alternative to the LM model line, the Limited Model High Grade (LM-HG) line of models are a large improvement featuring color separated parts, articulation in the knees, elbows and torso and a moderate increase in size.

In order to more accurately recreate their appearance in the show, the arm assemblies included with the LM-HG line are almost entirely pre-molded with a hard plastic joint covered by a rubber cover which severely limits articulation in the elbows. Despite their shortcomings, these models make up for it by including the most accessories of any line to date with kits often featuring four or more weapon options, umbilical cables and reasonably sized unpainted figures of various characters.

While models in this line are not entirely color accurate, most major details on the Evangelion are captured in the proper color requiring only small details to be painted for complete screen accuracy making them a good choice for a novice modeler looking to get into the hobby. Additionally, the inclusion of detailed figures and lots of basic accessories in need of painting and detailing means even advanced modelers will be challenged by these kits.

While the line originally ended in 1997, it was later revived in 2003 with the release of EVA-01 Type F AFC Experiment and in 2020 with the release of Evangelion Unit-01 (Theater Release Memorial Package). Since these kits were released well after the original run they are quite different in a large variety of ways from the rest of the line.

Perfect Grade (PG) Models (1997)

The Perfect Grade line started with the Evangelion series and the PG Evangelion Unit-01. The line was then transferred to the Gundam series with the release of the PG RX-78-2 Gundam in 1998. The perfect grade line are known for their complex interior frames and large size and while the PG Evangelion is large, its frame is very simple. Despite its simplicity, the model stands out from the rest with its use of multiple large rubber parts used to cover the various joints and torso of the Evangelion to accurately recreate its appearance from the show. Due to the difficulty of installing the rubber parts, the lack of color separation and the sheer size of the model, this kit is only recommended for experienced modelers.

A new line which was created to go along with the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. These kits are somewhere between the LM-HG line and the Master Grade line in term of quality, requiring very few stickers and/or painting to be anime accurate.

Real Grade (RG) Models (2020-Present)

A look at the inside the RG unit-01.

The Real Grade line was created in 2010, with the release of the RG RX-78-2 Gundam in July, and was exclusive to the Gundam franchise. Starting in 2020, the line expanded beyond with the introduction of Evangelion kits, starting with the Evangelion Unit-01 from Rebuild of Evangelion.

Real Grade kits all possess extreme amounts of detail on the inside and outside are are color separated to an extreme degree requiring no paint to exactly match the units as seen on screen. Additionally, all Real Grade kits include a sheet of optional marking decals consisting of metallic details, pinstripe lining and unit appropriate insignia to give the kits the signature Real Grade flair the line is known for.

Figure-rise Labo (2021-Present)

Figure-rise Labo is a sub series of the popular cross franchise Figure-rise standard line of character models by Bandai. Unlike regular Figure-rise kits, Labo kits are fix posed models which trade pose-ability and accessories for more complex molding and materials, often using dual injection techniques to create a more visually interesting appearance.
